(1992, Dir. Henri Verneuil, 130 mins, French w/English subtitles)
588 Rue Paradis is the 2nd autobiographical film by celebrated French-Armenian director Henri Verneuil, born Ashot Malakian in 1920 in the Ottoman Empire. This dramatic comedy sequel to Verneuil’s Mayrig (1991)* also features Omar Sharif and Claudia Cardinale, and examines Verneuil’s complex relationship with his father, who brought his family to Marseille, France to escape the Armenian Genocide.
Verneuil directed many popular French films and is sometimes connected to the French New Wave movement of the 1960’s. He was nominated for an Oscar, and received awards at Cannes and other international film festivals. He died in France in 2002.

Monthly ACOM Cinema Saturday.
The movie for this month will be "The Leisure Seeker", with Helen Mirren and Donald Sutherland, based on a book that we read in ACOM Book Club by an Armenian author, Michael Zadoorian.
A runaway couple go on an unforgettable journey in the faithful old RV they call The Leisure Seeker, traveling from Boston to The Ernest Hemingway Home in Key West. They recapture their passion for life and their love for each other on a road trip that provides revelation and surprise right up to the very end.
