Featuring What's My Line? 1959, with special mystery guests
Jack Benny & Groucho Marx (60 mins)

Star of radio, stage, and the big & small screens, Arlene Francis (nee Arline Francis Kazanjian, 1907 - 2001) was the leading lady of television in the 1950's and 60's. She was the first woman to host her own radio show, and then tv show, and went on to host and star on many others. She starred in over 75 plays on and off Broadway. She was most famous for her 25 years on the panel of the game show What’s My Line? where she dis-played her elegant and urbane wit and style. She was the highest-paid TV panelist during the 1950's. Francis paved the way for generations of women in TV and served as a role model for working women.

Kidnapping, Caucasian Style

(Dir. Leonid Gaidai, 1967, Russian w/English subtitles, 79 mins)

Kidnapping Caucasian StyleThis Soviet era slapstick comedy is a spoof on stereotypes about the trans-Caucasus region. Eager young Russian folklorist Shurik travels to the Caucasus to gather traditional myths, legends, and toasts. Along comes Nina, not only a brilliant student, Komsomol member and athlete, but also a “great beauty.” When Shurik is tricked into helping kidnap Nina as part of a fake traditional pre-marriage ritual, great mayhem ensues. The film was the biggest hit of 1967 and remains one of the most popular Soviet comedies of all time. It inspired a 2014 remake.
