Movie Night

ACOM Cinema Saturday evening. Starts at 7:00PM

Two Thousand and None

Dir. Arto Paragamian, 2000, 94 mins

This tragic comedy centers on Armenian American paleontologist

Benjamin Kasparian (John Turturro)

who learns that hedoesn’t havelong to live.

As death nears,he finds himself

examining his family’s past, and starts seeing images

of his childhood in Armenia everywhere.

The contrast between Kasparian's bravery

and the worry of peopleclose to him is

a source of warm and humane comedy.

Hilarious yet quiet, the film uses old home movies

to portrayshifting memories, as Kasparian develops

his crucial last mission in life.

Previously very difficult to find,

this film has just become available to stream.

ACOM Cinema Saturday presents  Our November selection:

“Don’t tell me the boy was mad”

A film by Robert Geurdiguian

Since our previous film was such a hit, we’re following up with another film by Armenian-French director Robert Guédiguian.

In the 80s Aram, a young French Armenian, blows up the Turkish ambassador's car in Paris. A young cyclist passing by is seriously injured. Now on the run, Aram joins the Armenian Liberation Army in Beirut. After Aram's mother visits the injured man in hospital and begs his forgiveness, an unexpected relationship and story develops …

This film is both heart-breaking and uplifting.
